“In a parallel universe, young Lyra Belacqua journeys to the far North to save her best friend and other kidnapped children from terrible experiments by a mysterious organization” from Imdb.
I saw The Golden Compass Monday night with my friend Becca, and it’s an amazing movie. The effects in the film are fabulous. Seeing this movie made me want to go out and buy the books now! Which I will def do now
This review may contain some spoilers, read with caution.
The movie starts out by telling the audience that many parallel worlds exist to our own, and in this tale we get to enter one of those worlds … of course. It’s a world where human’s souls live outside of their body in the form of an animal companion called daemons. And I have to say, after watching this film I want one! In fact, at the official site you can take a quiz to see which animal fits you (I forget what mine was, but it was a fox-like animal). The animals are all done on computer as well, and all of them look amazing. Anyways.
Basically throughout the movie you follow the tale of Lyra a kinda of tom-boy who lives with her uncle. Lyra’s friends and some other kids of her world are going missing by some secret organization and when her uncle leaves for the north in search of dust she’s left by herself. Eventually she makes her way to traveling north and ends up coming into possession of a compass, that only she can use that tells her the truth of any question she asks. She also makes friends with many other people, such as a bear who use to be a prince. More stuff happens blah blah blah and it ends in a way that tells you that they are making the other books into a film as well
(I won’t spoil the film for people!).
The best scene ever is the bear fight scene, wow. Seriously amazing, you could hate the entire film but watching that moment makes it all worth it. In short, this is an amazing way to end the year of 2007. If you are you into fantasy style movies then you will love this movie, and even if you are not maybe watching this film will make you like them. This is why I give the film 4/5 stars.
