The Golden Compass
Running Time: 113 minutes
Rating:

“In a parallel universe, young Lyra Belacqua journeys to the far North to save her best friend and other kidnapped children from terrible experiments by a mysterious organization” from Imdb.
I saw The Golden Compass Monday night with my friend Becca, and it’s an amazing movie. The effects in the film are fabulous. Seeing this movie made me want to go out and buy the books now! Which I will def do now
This review may contain some spoilers, read with caution.
The movie starts out by telling the audience that many parallel worlds exist to our own, and in this tale we get to enter one of those worlds … of course. It’s a world where human’s souls live outside of their body in the form of an animal companion called daemons. And I have to say, after watching this film I want one! In fact, at the official site you can take a quiz to see which animal fits you (I forget what mine was, but it was a fox-like animal). The animals are all done on computer as well, and all of them look amazing. Anyways.
Basically throughout the movie you follow the tale of Lyra a kinda of tom-boy who lives with her uncle. Lyra’s friends and some other kids of her world are going missing by some secret organization and when her uncle leaves for the north in search of dust she’s left by herself. Eventually she makes her way to traveling north and ends up coming into possession of a compass, that only she can use that tells her the truth of any question she asks. She also makes friends with many other people, such as a bear who use to be a prince. More stuff happens blah blah blah and it ends in a way that tells you that they are making the other books into a film as well
(I won’t spoil the film for people!).
The best scene ever is the bear fight scene, wow. Seriously amazing, you could hate the entire film but watching that moment makes it all worth it. In short, this is an amazing way to end the year of 2007. If you are you into fantasy style movies then you will love this movie, and even if you are not maybe watching this film will make you like them. This is why I give the film 4/5 stars.

I can tell that the special effects on this movie are amazing, but even thus I’m really interested in it. What you described is definitely interesting, but I think I would rather read it than watch it. Don’t know. I am going to see what animal companion would be mine XD
Wowee, sounds like an awesome movie! I always like to read the books first so then I don’t think the movie is as good because I’m more of a book reader. With the technology of today, movie special effects are getting so much better and more realistic. I’ll be sure to keep an eye out for it when it comes out here.
Yes an amazing movie! I totally loved it!
Nicole Kidman was stunning and her performance was fantastic!
I can’t wait to get the books.
Hm, I thought it was a good film, but an unfortunate crap adaptation of the books! Of course, can’t win ‘em all, and when you read the books — you’ll probably agree with me also that it did OK for chronology. =p
i’m not reading thisss, i don’t want the movie to be spoiled lol. maybe i’ll wait until it comes out on dvd to get cause tickets to the movies are crazy
All the hype about this series has made me really want to read the books, but your review definitely made me want to see the movie, too.
Sounds very worthy to watch, I want to see it too, have yet to grab someone and drag along ;-)
Happy Christmas to you
i am looking forward to seeing this movie, i love Nicole Kidman.
Happy Holidays, girl!!! =)
This sounds great, especially as I love fantasy films and after reading your review I definitely want to see it. Cool site!
I hope you had a great Christmas! ^_^
2008 is only a few days away and I just wanted to wish you a wonderful New Year!
There are so many good movies out, I am beginning to think that I will never get to see all of them. Maybe when it comes out on video.
Ooo I just watched it. I’m glad I haven’t read the book yet, the movie seems to work well without it. I’ll probably read it this holiday.
Damn you just ruined it for me! LOL. I tried not to read! You teaser. :p
I agree! It’s a good movie, although I’d just give it 3/5 stars, for (I think) it seems that the book is better (although I’ve never read the book :P)
I quite liked the movie as well, and I don’t understand why so many people don’t!
Very good review,I wasn’t really interested in seeing this movie before but now I guess I’ll overthink it ;)
Happy New Year!
i didn’t read past the spoilers warning! I’ll definitely watch this movie!
Glad to hear that it’s fantastic!! It’s definitely a movie that I will rent when it comes out then. I didn’t realize that there were books??
Must go research now…
Anyways, happy new year!
I havent really been interested in seeing it. But everyone says its good. Maybe I’ll see it now, lol
Yeah I saw the movie 2 weeks ago, I loved it. Don’t really understand why so many people didn’t like it.
It’s not my kind of movie, but I take your word for it that it was good.
After reading your review, I kinda want to watch that movie. I haven’t heard a lot of good things about The Golden Compass, but I read the book and I liked it. The special effects look awesome.
