Canceled! Now what …

by Veronica

There’s nothing like waking up a little before 8am, getting ready for class, going all the way to class only to find that’s canceled. My 2D Foundations class was supposed to be at 9:05am, I got there about 15+ minutes before and was sitting outside the classroom with another girl. Since I knew my professor has been sick lately I checked my school email on my laptop only to find it was canceled. Great. My next class was at 12:50 (I am actually in class right now but waiting for it to start :P). It’s safe to say I was bored out of my mind. I did the following:

  • Checked my email
  • Worked on the member list clean out at Despair.nu
  • Played some WoW
  • Posted on Plurk and Twitter
  • Went to the vending machine downstairs to get a snack and drink
  • Played more WoW
  • Twitter + plurk again
  • …. I think you get the idea.

At one point I went to the library because I figured it’d be comfier sitting in a chair at a nice desk than on the floor in one of the buildings waiting for class. If you’ve ever had a canceled class or some other event, what did you do to amuse yourself?

On the bright side, I have the professor again after my drawing class which means that class is canceled too :D! So I’ll get home a little after 3:30 rather than after 5:30 :) But I still wish I knew it was canceled before I woke up :( Lastly, thank you for the belated birthday wishes :) I still don’t feel 23 … but I guess I don’t look it either so that works out :P

Well I have the day off today, so I’ve basically been on the computer all day. :P And that’s usually what I do anytime I don’t have classes.

I don’t mind if class is canceled since I’m at school anyway (talking about high school here). I usually just hang out with friends from that class who have nothing to do, either :)

I love it when my classes get cancelled. :p Hahaha! I can go home earlier to take a short nap and just relax at home.

My classes are so few and far between I can just go home if they’re cancelled (I have three three-hour lectures per week – yes, this is supposed to be full time education. I don’t know; it beats me).

The most annoying thing is the other day when I had a meeting with a tutor at 5pm but due to a room change I couldn’t find my morning/afternoon lecture! So I tried my best to reclaim some of my day (i.e. went shopping :P), then I went home, then I came straight back out again.

I hate it when tutors/lecturers don’t inform the students in advance regarding cancelled class. I think it is really irresponsible of them. What I do is usually just go back to my hostel room or just head to the nearest library to read some books to pass the time or complete my assignments if I have any.

Awe I’m sorry that your class got canceled. I know it sucks. But hey at least you got down time!

Geez, it amazes me how some people comment without actually reading what you write.

Anyway, I HATED morning classes when I was going to college. They really should try and contact you when classes are canceled. You get penalized if you don’t let them know, why do they get away with it when they don’t show up?

I hate it when classes get canceled after you have been on campus for four hours because that is how long you have between your classes. Theatre is a weird major.

As for what I do, I either hang out with friends or find a quiet place on campus (there are a couple) and have a nap.

I’d probably find my friends and have a chat with them, and head out to the nearest café.

I tend to just sit and talk to friends if I have a cancelled class, and in my 5/6 hour break that I have one day, I just sit talking to friends and eating/drinking for the most part.

At my school, we don’t really get classes “canceled”, but there’s some teachers who give spare classes… however, I never pay attention to those, and I end up at school with 75 minutes to blow. @_@; Never fun.

I don’t recall having many classes cancelled… it was ever so long ago that I studied though :P In most cases we’d show up and class would be about to start and we’d decide not to go lol

I hate it when school gets cancelled… I went to class last last thursday only to find out that school was cancelled because it was community day. Should have checked the calendar a little bit more… lol

It’s okay with me to have our classes canceled. I don’t know, I’m just in high school. XD But yeah, everything would have been so much better if you were informed that classes were canceled even before you woke up. I hate having to amuse myself in those situations, especially because I easily run out of things to do.

Usually if class gets canceled I kill some time online (usually on Facebook) until my next class.

That actually sounds like fun. Reminds me of the time it snowed here. I got up at 5 in the morning like every day, only to find that school was cancelled AFTER I got there. It’s so annoying knowing that you could’ve slept longer, right?

that stinks! i have early classes like that every day, so I can feel your pain. Too bad teachers always cancel stuff last minute… even when they know about it way in advance… it’s like they wanna torture you and make you suffer….. but hey, at least you got a lot done. -claps-
