Mmm Linux

by Veronica

From hearing (or rather reading?) people’s take on Ubuntu at Snark Forums I decided to install it on my desktop, for no other reason than wanting to play with it :D And me likey. It has a fun interface that I am enjoying trying to get used to, runs smoothly on my desktop and just overall is nice. Although I don’t use my desktop all that much (my intention was to mainly play WoW and other games on it instead of my laptop, but even with the new parts my boyfriend got me for my birthday it still lags with WoW a bit), I may play with it more now :) This does not mean I like my mac any less because I still loveeeee my macbook pro but using a new OS is fun and I enjoy Linux!

I told my boyfriend I installed it (he hates macs) so according to him there is hope for me yet …. yeah, thanks.

Spring Break is just around the corner (starts March 8th, offically) and I CAN NOT WAIT. I requested it off several weeks ago but it was not approved, sadly. I am upset that I will instead be spending my SB working and being by myself in an empty apartment since both friends will be home. Ah well, at least the complex should be quiet since no one will be here :P I also found out that I am off Friday and Saturday (13th and 14th) so I may be able to go home. I was very devistated when I found out (I had my bf check the schedule since he was working tonight) but I am trying to find the brighter side of things … not working so far but ah well :P Any plans for your Spring Break?

PSH! Macs are the BEST!! I just recently got a new iMac and it was soooo worth it!! Shouldn’t have ruined it with Linux though. LOL! Just my two cents.

High five for using Macs! :D

I’m going home for spring break, and I’m sooo excited. Currently no plans other than to sleep a lot, enjoy home cooked food, and hang out with friends. It’ll be a good break :)

I’ve never tried linux… I’m kind of afraid of installing it although it does look ever so appealing!

I do keep hearing a lot about Ubuntu… a lot of good things. I am going to look into it myself.

And for those who commented on the entry… most Cpanel hosting is on Linux servers.

I’ve always wanted to try Ubuntu but I don’t want to put it on my Macbook. When I move out, I’ll probably invest in a cheap-ish desktop and have it run it. (Although if it’s with my boyfriend, he’ll take care of that!)
Speaking of boyfriends, what’s wrong with yours, he doesn’t like Macs! lol. They’re amazing… I will NEVER go back to Windows EVER.

I’m too scared of trying Ubuntu :/ Maybe someday, if I’ll have a another computer to use if I mess this one up :D And, yeah, I’m jealous of your Mac *wants one too*!

I hope you manage to have at least a little time of during your SB, even though you have to work! Mine came and went, with me being sick with the flu :(

Another Ubuntu user! I decided to fiddle with Ubuntu as well and I really like it – the interface is really refreshing after Windows don’t you think? :P

I’ve never tried Linux. My boyfriend has it installed on his desktop along with windows.

I never really got to use it though :S

Hmm, maybe I should install Linux to my desktop that I rarely use. Looks nice.

And sorry that you’re working on SB. My SB is coming up soon, and I’m jobless so I’d be happy to work.

I’ve also been thinking about trying out linux – I guess it’s mostly because I want to make sure I am not missing out on something :) Buuut it’s not gonna be right away.. I don’t really have the time or energy to really get to know it..

Ugh, my spring break seems so far away.. Even if it’s only a couple of weeks – but I have two exams before so I can’t really think about anything but that..

My boyfriend got me into using Linux. I’ve got Arch linux on my laptop, which is the geek version, so every time I need to figure something out I need his help lol. But it is fun having total control over absolutely everything my computer is doing. And not having to worry about viruses at all. I’m always proud of myself when I figure out how to do things on my own now. I’m a wannabe computer geek lol. I’m pretty sure that the Mac OS is a Unix based one so Linux isn’t really that far away from Mac… (which is a little funny for me because I’m totally not a Mac person lol)

YESSSSSSSSSSS A LINUX CONVERT!!! Aww, you totally just made my day. <3

I’m on Ubuntu right now, but I’ve heard tell that Mint and OpenSUSE are just as good (if not better). :3
