How I Would Survive A Zombie Invasion

by Veronica

A few days ago my boyfriend and I were talking about zombies, not quite sure how it came into conversation though but maybe it had to do with the “world ending” and all the talk surrounding it recently.  Then he asked me what I would do if zombies were ever to invade/attack/plague earth. Also would love to know what others would do! So here it is, how I (or we rather) would survive. So lets I wake up one morning to see on the news about a new attack, unlike anything the world has ever seen before. Zombies are real and are out to get some brains! So what would I do?

Weaponry
Knowing that we would need some sort of weaponry and seeing as the samurai sword in my closet isn’t very sharp I’d probably want to find some melee weapons first. If there’s something that zombie movies and games have taught me it is BOOM HEADSHOT. But if you don’t have gun what else can you use? Anything that packs a punch and anything you have around the house or can find outside. Baseball bat, shovel, rake, and anything else. If I didn’t have access to a gun a baseball bat is one of the first things I would want. Hitting the brain and the spine of zombie = an uber dead zombie. Knowing when to fight and when to be on the move is also key. Killing a bunch of zombies just to kill them could attract attention, either from civilians or those infected. You never want a scene, ever.

Location, Location, Location
If I am going to be on the move, then I need to constantly be on the move, but only traveling under the shadows so no one sees me. No stopping for long periods of time except to rest (with more than one person on guard of course!). BUT if for some reason I am going to stay put and fight, there’s a local military compound that I would go to. I imagine it has plenty of previsions (food and water) as well as weaponry. Plus it has an area high off the ground which makes it easier to shoot at things below (unless of course there are A LOT of zombies then I’d have to figure out how to escape). But honestly, I think I’d hit the compound for supplies and keep moving until after a day or so of planning my next move (of course only after determining the building has no zombies and ensuring no zombies can get in but that I can get out easily).

Notebook
I’d also keep a notebook on me. If there’s different types of zombies chances are there are different and better/faster ways to kill them. I’d try to keep details on each one I come across as well as any techniques I found along the way. Such as the best weapon against a super-fast zombie or the best way to to keep a zombie away from your current camping ground. I think something like this would come in handy, not only for myself but for others.

One is the loneliest number
And being by yourself in an epic zombie invasion is no fun alone either. Of course I’d have my boyfriend with me so I wouldn’t be alone. I would, however, want to travel to go get my mother, my dog, my sister, my sister’s husband, and their 2 sons. My sister’s husband is a cop as well so his perfect aim would come in handy! After that we’d head to Texas to get my boyfriend’s family. If I picked up friends along the way than GREAT, but I certainly wouldn’t stop for just anyone. You never know who has been bitten and could turn into a zombie next, so try to not trust strangers. Traveling can be hard and knowing that if something like this ever happened the traffic on roads will probably be crazy. But seeing as it’s my family I am talking about, I’d risk it and probably take back roads if possible.

Final Notes
Staying alive is of course key and to ensure that someone has to make quick decisions without being careless. One wrong move could result in you or someone else getting bitten. Never get cocky and always keep your guard up. It seems in movies there’s always “safe houses” or cities somewhere so that’s probably where I’d head if possible or try to make one myself. I like to think years of watching Buffy, zombie movies, and playing video games has prepared me for something like this but you honestly never know … and I for one hope I don’t have to test my skills. I am really curious how others would survive, detail it in the comments, email me, or even blog about it but don’t forget to send me the link ;)

* The illustration I made for this post is from my Graphic Design I class (which I re-created), where I created a fake poster for a fake zombie removing business. Which who knows, maybe I’d turn it into a real business!

If Zombies attacked. I’d be dead or a zombie. Lol, my friends would ditch me! I know that sounds mean but it’s probably true. Sounds like you were well planned for the rapture. Lol.

weapon: hatchet (light and doesn’t need to be sharp to do it’s job)
location: military base with nuclear shelter near my home… i’d prolly check if it’s safe but wouldn’t rely on it. Easy to find boats and wood camps around, i’d prolly end up looking for one in the mountains.
miscellaneous: portable radio with autoscan function. Lot of batteries. I’d probably check a sport shop to find one of the hangeable sleeping bag used in hiking (never heard of climbing zombies)
number: one is probably the loneliest but also the safest number. The less you carry, the easiest you can hide. Yet I’d bring a pet, not a dog since it barks and attract attention, but prolly something smaller like a hamster or guinea pig (any animal can sense danger nearby)
