Why I Dislike Snow White 05.6.2011

I’ve had a long time disliking for Snow White ever since I was little and it’s something that has carried over into adulthood. I grew up watching Disney movies, especially the princess ones, and majority of them I still watch today (even the newer ones I like such as Princess & The Frog and Tangled!) but Snow White has been the only one I don’t like. I decided to draw out the princesses on my iPad, all stick figure like because drawing with my finger takes a while :P

This is Snow White, stick figure aside she is portrayed as this beautiful girl in the movie. Which is fine, I thought she was pretty. I loved her dress and I LOVED the Seven Dwarfs even the movie as well. In my childhood I think I hated her voice the most, it was very high pitched and rather annoying. It’s something that still bothers me to this day. But also in the movie I noticed she does nothing! She cooks and cleans for the dwarfs and then eats a poisoned apple after they tell her not to open the door to a stranger. She does nothing heroic, nothing really for herself, and nothing noteworthy. She doesn’t overcome anything, she has a prince do it for her. She falls into a deep sleep after eating the apple and is asleep. At least he was a cute prince I guess. To this day, 20 years later I still CAN NOT watch the movie Snow White without getting annoyed by her voice or by something else she does. But, there are some princesses I do like!

The princesses above are Ariel from The Little Mermaid, Cinderella, and Belle from Beauty and the Beast (in case you can’t tell from my horrible stick figure drawings). These are only 3 from a long list of Disney princess that I adore (Jasmine, Aurora, and many more). Now when I was little and I wasn’t pretending to be running from dinosaurs from Jurassic Park I was pretending I was a mermaid. The Little Mermaid was the first movie I saw in theaters and I still LOVE it to this day. Of course Ariel does stupid things too, she’s 16 and runs away from home after doing the whole “love at first sight” with Prince Eric (I watched this movie last week). But she tries to save Eric from Ursula and her father helps too and yada yada. She’s not that much of a damsel in distress, a little dumb yes with her decisions but still. Cinderella also overcame her wicked Stepmother and evil Stepsisters and in the end got her Prince. Even with all the hardship in her life she still sang a song and kept a smile on her face and in the end she got her Prince too. Belle from Beauty and the Beast is also a big favorite of mine. First off, she LOVES to read which her town thinks is weird. She has Gaston always going after her but she stands up for herself. She sacrifices her own life and freedom to save her father and in the end gets her prince too.

I do realize disliking a fictional character is probably weird, but Snow White is just one of those movies I still refuse to watch. Of course if I have a little girl when I have kids she can watch any Disney movie she wants, but Snow White may be the one I’ll have my husband watch with her :P

I Love the Holidays 12.30.2010

Classes ended back at the end of November (no exams for art students, woot! Also got all A’s in my classes!) and I spent my time playing World of Warcraft (Cataclysm came on December 7th!). I was able to go home from December 20th-December 30th (drove back today) which was awesome :D! I got to see my now 2 year old nephew open presents on Christmas as well as the rest of my family. I got a lot of really nice things this year! In the beginning of December there was a nice 32” Sylvania HD LCD tv on sale at work. I asked my Mom if I could buy it since my discount would make it even cheaper and that it could count as my Christmas gift, she said I could so I got it :D! I love it! She also knew I wanted to get the Kinect for my xbox 360 but since I got the tv I didn’t expect anything but movies or something for Christmas.

On Christmas Day I opened a present that was a George Foreman Grill, I thought it was random for my Mom to buy me one but I could use it none-the-less. She kept hinting for me to open it which I didn’t get at first, but then I opened it to find the Kinect box inside of it! I was so excited, she even got it on video haha :D I didn’t bring my xbox home with me though so I wasn’t able to play it until I drove back to Tallahassee today, and it’s SO much fun! I can’t wait to get some more games for it. Here’s pictures of everything I got :)

Toy Story 3
Running Time: 103 minutes
Rating: ★★★★★

Please note this review may contain spoilers!

I saw Toy Story 3 tonight and it was AMAZING. I was a huge fan of the first film when I was little (to be honest I don’t remember too much about the second :P) so I was so excited to hear about a third! Toy Story 3 definitely has a lot to offer to the older fans who have grown up a little as well as to newer fans.

The basic premise of the movie is that Andy is going off to college and doesn’t need his toys anymore. Through some misfortune and a misunderstanding the toys end up at Sunnyside Day Care. Woody tries to escape to go back to Andy, only to find out that Sunnyside isn’t so sunny. So Woody makes his way back to bust them out. More things happen involving an Buzz speaking Spanish, the little aliens finding the ‘ultimate’ claw, and the toys always being burned :D

There’s a mean bear that’s huggable, purple, and smells like strawberries. A creepy baby, and many other new toys. I won’t spoil the ending at all, but of course there’s a happy ending :) I greatly enjoyed this movie! The action in the movie was amazing, the toys were all designed well, and it really reawakens your own imagination. Pixar also is famous for the short films at the beginning, and “Night & Day” is also a great addition to the film!

I definitely recommend for anyone and everyone to see this film! I can not wait for it to com out on dvd :) I give Toy Story 3 5/5 stars, for the action, adventure, dialogue, making me laugh way too much sometimes, and the overall plot. The movie was highly enjoyable. So go see it now, what are you waiting for ;)?

Irony of this post is yesterday I talked about the power going out at work, well when I got home from the movie the power was out! Was out for maybe 20 mins until it came back on but when I got settled on the computer with my laptop it went out again, oh joy. So I typed this up in the dark, yay.
